The Virtual Keyboard

Techno Blast

Virtual Keyboard
This is the Bluetooth device that projects a laser-generated keyboard onto any flat, opaque surface, providing an instant keyboard for any iPad, iPhone, or Android phone. The Class II laser device generates a 9 3/4″-wide x 4″-deep keyboard with 3/4″ keys and recognizes keystrokes in three dimensions by an optical sensor that detects finger placement at different areas on the keyboard, distinguishing between a finger hovering above the space bar or a number key. An invisible infrared horizontal plane projected millimeters above the surface detects actual contact with “keys”-when the plane is interrupted by a finger, the projector assigns a keyboard character, passing it along to a paired device. Keeps pace with typing speeds up to 400 characters-per-minute. Its rechargeable battery provides up to 2 1/2 hours of operation from a 1 1/2-hour charge from AC using the included USB/AC adapter (or three hours via direct connection to a computer)…

This Exercise Bike Features a Huge Touchscreen, Webcam and Live-Streaming Spin Classes

Ever been to a spin class? Me neither. All the yelling, am I right?! People love spinning, though. If you’re one of those people, this bike may interest you.

For starters, it’s basically like taking a spin class except you don’t have to leave your house. It’s my understanding that some popular spin classes fill up quickly, meaning you can’t get a bike. In this case, you’re using your own bike and the spin class is being broadcast live from a studio in New York.

Second, the live spin classes each feature a leaderboard that shows who’s pedaling the hardest. And if your friend has a Peloton bike, the two of you can use your bikes’ built-in webcams to taunt each other. If you have multiple friends with Peloton bikes, congrats! You run with a well-heeled crowd of in-shape people.

The webcam sits atop an enormous (by exercise equipment standards)…

Print’s not dead

Design, Writing and Beyond

I recently read a study that explored whether e-books or print books are the future. In this digital age I assumed that e-books with their convenience and accessibility would be the preferred option, so I was surprised to learn that print books show no signs of slowing down even with the growth of e-books.

The findings stated that e-books are being used more and more but mainly for research and academic reading. E-books are excellent for pin pointing information that may be hidden in a large text. They make finding information and downloading it much easier then researching using print books. It is still noted that e-books are harder on the eyes than print and when it comes to sitting down to read something cover to cover, print is the chosen preference.

This finding will be interesting to revisit with the growing popularity of ‘Kindles’, the devices that combine the…

Lets say you post with #drinkteabesocial: You can search the same hashtag on Facebook by just clicking on it.

Microsoft will give away Office on smaller Windows 8 tablets

Microsoft is starting to get creative when it comes to selling Windows-based tablets. We learned late last week that the company had started giving away keyboards for the Surface RT for a limited time and now The Verge reports that Microsoft is throwing in Office 2013 for free on smaller Windows 8 tablets. Microsoft said that while it’s up to OEMs to bundle the software, customers who buy 7-inch or 8-inch Windows tablets in the coming months should expect most of them to come with Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote already installed. Smaller Windows 8 tablets won’t have access to Outlook 2013, however Microsoft did say that they’ll likely come installed with the less comprehensive Outlook RT that’s now included for free on Windows RT tablets.
